Am I suffering from discomgoogolation?

Where should I start? Start with the definition of the high fundae word that you have put in ur blog title...or better start with the circumstances that made you realize that u r suffering from that...Many of my friends (non IITians) believe that IIT life is very hectic and as I am in the second year of MTech, they suppose that I am busy with my project work... When ever I chat with my friends, they advise me to concentrate more on my MTech project and to stop wasting my time, staying online almost 24 hours a day.. The reason that I give for being online is : "We should utilize the facilities provided by the insti to the fullest extent" [:P]

But wait a minute..What are you doing in the cyber world for 24 hrs a day?? Dont say that you are searching for some thing that is related to ur project work, dont say that u r chatting with some one special..Yesterday, I realized that there are many people in the world who are facing the same problem as mine..They just keep on browsing the net for hours and finally end up forgetting what they were actually searching for. They feel stressed when they cannot access the internet.. One of my IIT Profs explained about such a situation and introduced this word, "DISCOMGOOGOLATION"to us .. Unfortunately, I am also suffering from that..[:(]

After that class, I was interested to know more about that. So I started WIKIing and I got some facts which I am putting here. The term is a combination of "discombobulate", which means to confuse or frustrate, and Google. Yeah, google has become a verb for us. " Do some googling dude" means " Do some search in the net". Nearly half of Britans - 44% - are discomgoogolation sufferers, according to a survey."A galaxy of information is just a mouse click away and we have become addicted to the web" .

I was not able to google out the way to get rid of that. :(

Introspection

Hey author of this blog..It seems that you have almost forgotten the fact there is some thing like this, which you have started a few days back ...U posted almost 2 months back.. A few questions you have to answer : Is it because you have become very busy these days?? Or is it because you didnt get any thing worth posting in your blog? What prompted you to start a blog?

As author of this blog, I have the responsibility to answer the above questions .In one sense, I was busy. In addition to the usual project work, which any way I have to do, I was involved in a few more things in the past few days- Onam Celebrations in the Sindhu Hostel ,Onam Celebrations of Kerala Kala Samithi and finally Fresher's party that we gave t0 our Thermal Juniors. It is not that I did not have any thing worth posting, but I could not find enough time to sit peacefully and write some thing in this blog.

The answer to the last question that was raised could be answered like this. I started blogging in May. It was just a way to escape from boredom. What to post was the next question . Initially, I thought of posting techie stuffs in my blog. That might have fetched more readers for this blog. But later I decided to start posting some of my personal experiences. Never did I think that I could find people who are willing to spend time to read my blog. But to my surprise, some of my friends, though not interested in writing comments in the blogs, encouraged me to write more and started to discuss with me about my blog.

Marriage for research

The second year of my MTech has started.. Most probably, this is going to be my last year, as a student. The question of Phd is not infront of me now. My parents are compelling me to go for job after my MTech. When I expressed my interest to do 'REsearch', my mother found out a solution. 'You go abroad and do Phd after your marriage.' I am 23 years now.So if we assume that 26 years is the optimum age for marriage, I have to wait for more than 3 years to do my Phd.

It was raining outside. I was sitting alone in my hostel room, infront of my comp.. A perfect situation for....Hey, remove all those nasty thoughts that came to your mind. A perfect situation for writing a blog . The only solution for doing Phd is marriage. As some one rightly pointed out,

" It is easy to find a girl,
It is hard to find a woman,
It is hardest to find a wife. "

I have not yet found my girl friend, though I have many friends who are gals. I thought about the number of misses (read this as the plural of MISS) I kissed...Sorry..sorry..kisses I missed. .I wonder how people gather up courage to propose to a girl .....First propose, then date, then gather courage to kiss.. Nothing is going to happen..Let us believe in Arranged Marriage.. So first marrige, then Phd....ha ha.

(PS: Got inspiration to write this, after reading the blog of one of my friends. )

Old is gold

I just thought of those days (late eighties or early nineties) , when we did not have the Remote Control to control our TV. Those days we did not have so many channels. We just found fun in watching Doordarshan. We used to love a few advertisements as well. Today I downloaded a few of them from You Tube. I am adding them in this blog.

1) Hamara Bajaj

2) Natraj

3) Nirma Washing powder

Now we have lots of channels which are exclusively dedicated to news like CNN IBN, Times Now... But those days for English News, we depended only on Doordarshan. This was how the English news started in those days.

The next one that I am adding is " Mile Sur Mera Tumhara"

This is the last one I am adding today

Harthal= HURT ALL

Just another day in my life...I was thinking what to post in my blog ...Even after thinking for 1 hour, I could nt find any thing worth posting. At last, I started to go thru the messages in my mobile, as if I could get some important information in that. Found a message from one of my friends. "Angane Veendum oru Harthal. Hathal Aasamsakal ...." [ Yeah, one more Harthal. Harthal Wishes...more blah blah...].. I checked the date , I got that message. July 3rd. Typed 'July 3rd kerala harthal' in google and started to read the stuff...

I realized that there is a site dedicated exclusively for Harthal . They define Harthal like this:
" "Hartal"
is a Gujarati word. "Har" means "everything" or "always"; "Tal" or "tala" means "to close". The word "hartal" means a day of mourning or protest, on which all the shops are shut and no-one goes to work or does any shopping. " What a nice definition for Harthal. It should be called as HURT ALL.

I was curious to know the reason for Harthal. Because there was a harthal on June 27th - a protest against some Amarnath land issue or some thing. Another harthal with in a week.... The reason for the Harthal on July 3rd was even more interesting. " Some Controversy in Seventh Standard Social Studies Text Book". The controversial section starts with a heading "mathammillatha jeevan" (atheist jeevan or more precisely jeevan who has no religion).

The lesson is something like this: A kid came for admission accompanied by his parents. Head Master started to fill the Application Form.

HM: What is ur name?
kid: Jeevan
HM: Good..nice name..Ur father's name?
kid: Anwar Rasheed
HM:Mother's name?
kid: Lekshmi Devi

HM raised his head (looking at the parents) and asked : What shud I fill in the place for the child's religion?
Father: Need not write any thing. or Better write NO RELIGION
HM:Caste?
Father:No
HM: what if this kid feels that he needs a religion when he grows up?
Father: Let him follow the religion that he feels as good..

I could not find any thing wrong in the above textual material.I dont know whether there is any hidden Communist Thought in this particular material.

A nice mail

I got this mail from one of my friends. I liked it, so thought of posting it.

Listen & Silent are two words with same alphabets

They are very important in every relationship

Coz very few people in this world,

Can listen to you when you are silent.

Friendship Mistaken??

Disclaimer:

What ever I am posting here has not occurred in the life of any one. But resemblance if any found is unintentional and strictly coincidental.

The story took place in a fictitious place named Murdanvirt. The hero of this story is Mr X. I dont know whether I can address him as a hero. This particular post is related to his childhood. He studied in a mixed school. Mr X was a very nice boy in the school, a pet of all the teachers. X studied really well, never permitted any one to take the First Rank from him... There was a tradition in the school in which he studied. The student who scored the highest mark among the students of all the sections of that particular standard was given a BEST STUDENT badge. X scored it in all the classes till his fourth.

The fifth standard.. now no more a primary student. That year, the school authorities did a small shuffling. No change in the division for X, again A. But new students from other divisions came to A division and many of the students who were studying in A division till their fourth standards, were shifted to other divisions . Y , a student who studied in another division, was also shifted to A division.

X always mingled freely with every one. Even with Y , he mingled very freely. X never realized that there were gossips in the school about his friendship with Y... That gossip actually started in their seniors batch..X never knew that Y was such a sought after gal..But those gossips did affect Y. She started to consider X , not as a friend, but as some one more special from her ninth standard...But foolish X never ever realized that.He actually witnessed so many budding lovers in his ninth standard. " Nee enthinaa eni anveshikkunnathu..ellam nee oppicchu vacchittille ? " [ why are you searching for a gal? Every thing is already well arranged right]..Only when X heard such a comment from one of his best friends, he realized that there was some problem. That he heard on the last day of his ninth standard..

X recollected the Valentines Day Card he got...Now the things were getting clearer...X initially thought that it was a prank played by some of his friends.. He also understood why Y wanted his phone number... But even then, he could not believe it. The vacations started.. X started to receive regular phone calls from Y during the day time when the parents of X were not at home...In the initial days, Y used to talk about the Tuition class she was attending...But when She started to speak about movies, romance, X tried to discourage it..... One particular movie of Madhavan, (Alaipayuthe) that was released at that time, influenced Y badly.

The tenth standard classes started. Luckily, the school authorities did the shuffling business again. X and Y were in different divisions. X started to avoid Y. No more phone calls.. Good , X thought. " Studies first " . :P...Nothing happened till the day of the Model exam.. That after noon before the Malayalam Exam, Y told that she really loved X...She was not able to concentrate on the studies just because of X...more blah blah...Y literally cried after saying all these... X wondered what to say to such a gal at that time...X felt really bad when his friendship was totally mistaken by Y...He did not know how to handle that situation, with whom to talk with etc..

" Da kayarunnille...teacher vannu..." [ Da are nt you coming inside..The teacher has come" ]..some one shouted and X went inside the class room...

Reading for sleeping or Sleeping for reading??

One week of stay away from hostel, an unexpected visit to home. I reached home on 5th and stayed there till 12th. This is the first time I am staying away from the world of INTERNET since my second year of BTech. Many a time I feel that I am wasting my time reading blogs, orkuting, chatting... I am not using the net for any academic purposes. So this time I thought of utilizing my time fruitfully. I decided to do certain things during my stay at home this time.

Read “NOT A PENNY MORE, NOT A PENNY LESS” by Jeffrey Archer.

Yeah, I took this book from the hostel library two weeks back. But due to my hectic schedule , I didnt get time to read even a single page of it. Even during the vacation time, I could not find time to read books due to me sitting in front of the comp all the time. It is believed by many, that the reading habit in people is affected adversely, due to the influence of internet.I too believed in that before going home.Today is 13th, and I am back to IIT. So what happened to you last week?? Did you complete that book??

Before answering these questions, first of all let me tell you some thing personal . Both my AMMA and APPA are employed. So my stay at home implies staying alone in the morning time. When I was at home, every day I used to get up at 8 O’clock. “Da, vegam vallathum kazhikku…Njangalkku officil pokendathalle?. Ennenkilum nee aa Emergency Lamp nannakkan kodutthatthu medeikkanam.” [Da take some thing fast (break fast time). We need to go to office right?. Don’t forget to go to the near by electrical shop to buy the Emergency Lamp. He has repaired it ”] . Shit... my sleep got disturbed.

After having the break fast and reading the headlines of the news paper, by about 10 O'clock, I would go to my room, with the Archer's book in hand. Then I would switch on the Radio, listen to FM, open the first page of the book. "Sitting in this chair and reading book is really uncomfortable for me!! I should lie on my SWEET BED and then read the book." Hai good, this is really comfortable... [:D].Let me think what I read yesterday. Thoughts...stories...dreams....What happened to me?? My mobile is ringing..." Who is disturbing me now ?? ". Already 4 missed calls.. Checked the time in the mob...4.20pm. So today also I missed my lunch. ' Amma has kept every thing on the dining table, but still I did not take any thing.

4.30 pm, some questions in mind..." Whether to shave today or not..Whether to take a bath or not??". Time 4.50pm, " Let me take a bath now. I will shave tomorrow". Time 5.15pm, "Now I am feeling really HUNGRY..[:(]" ..Take the food man. Every thing is on the dining table.. “ Enikku kashappedan vayya…enthayalum amma 5.45kku varum…enittu kazhicchal mathi…” [Amma will come back by 5.45pm. Will take the food after that.] ..

When am I going to finish that book?”. Appa would be back by 6.45pm. 7.30- 8.00 ….Oh no!! Have I become blind? I am not able to see any thing… [:(] ..Yeah, this is the LOAD SHEDDING TIME. People, who are not familiar with this particular term, : Come to Kerala and stay for a few days. You will understand the meaning of it. “ Ennum nee athu medicchille??” [U did not buy it (Emergency Lamp) even today?”]..

8.30- 9.30pm – Idea Star Singer 2008. The only time, when three of us stay together and watch a TV programme . My parents would sleep by 10 pm. I may be watching some old movie till midnight, then sleep.............

Even though there was no net at home for one week, I could not finish even 4 pages of that book. Thus I realized that INTERNET is in no way doing harm to me. It is not a TIME WASTE. Who said, “ The reading habit in people is affected adversely, due to the influence of internet?"

Happy Birth day to U

At last a post in my blog. My birthday was on 4th July , the first time in my life , I am celebrating the b'day away from home.. - R u feeling home sick?? [: P]... Most probably: “No man!! How can you expect me to have that syndrome even after staying in hostels for five years ( 4 years BTech and 1 year MTech)?.But still, I want to go home for my birth day. " Luckily, my Guide permitted me to go home for one week. This means that I would be going home on 4th night and would reach home on 5th after noon.

There exists a tradition in IITM; at least it exists among the THERMITES (my Thermal Branch mates), not so great though... The person, who is having his birth day, should give a TREAT to the fellow branch mates in Basera. I am supposed to give them the treat on 4th night. Since I was going home on 4th evening, I thought of giving it A PRIORI. I gave it on 3rd. Around 22 of my batch mates attended it.

On third night, by about 11.45, Edward the new GSec of Sindhu Kairali, came to my room with a birth day cake in his hand.My thermal friends also came to my room with another birth day cake. A nice experience!! As far as I know, the first person to be gifted with two birth day cakes. I cut both the cakes. The two cakes that you see in the pic, the one on my left hand side was being sponsered by Sindhu Kairali and the other one by the Thermites. In the cake, given by my thermal friends, it was written, TO OUR SEXY SABBU… :P

Some of my friends took that as an opportunity to beat me. The problem was that, I was not wearing my Spectacles at that time. With out the Specs, I could not see the ones who beat me the most.[:(] Some of them pasted the cream on my face and had fun. Any way the birth day that I celebrated away from my home for the first time was a really memorable experience for me...

Am I doing something that I really want to do??

Today was yet another boring day for me. Got up at 7.30am , read the news paper- could not find any thing interesting : News about the hike in fuel price and some descriptions about yesterdays HARTHAL. I did not want to spend more time on them. Just sat in front of my computer at around 8.30 am. Got a friends request from one my school mates. So started thinking about the school. The days when I used to read the entire news paper. My father used to advise me to read 'The Hindu', to improve my vocabs. "No....I cant." Used to read only Malayalam News Papers. Though I studied in an English Medium school, we were not given any exposure to spoken English. Even English was taught in Malayalam in my school. ha ha...

At about 10.15 am, one of my neighbours, Rakesh, came to my house. He has completed his tenth standard and is having his vacations now. "Rakesh studies well", my amma has told me once. That guy has scored really gud marks in his tenth also. He came to my house seeking my advice. Advice?? I hate that. He asked me ," Chetta, what do we learn in Engineering?? My parents are forcing me to go for Entrance Tuition and all. I am interested in taking ' English' as my career. But my parents are telling me that I will not get good job if I go behind English. What should I do?" . I could not give any satisfactory reply to him.

After Rakesh left, I tried to recollect the things which he had asked me. Yeah, the same problem , even I faced in 2001, when I passed my SSLC exam. By GOD's grace, I got 14th rank in the state for my SSLC. Many of my friends, who congratulated me on that day, asked me ," Eni entha paripadi?? Engineer/ Doctor??" ( whats ur next plan? Engineer/Doctor). " No, I don't want to become an Engineer or a doctor. I want to do my higher studies in Malayalam Literature. I want to take my PhD in Malayalam and to become a good Professor". Even my friends said, " No, man. U are a great BUJI. U shud go for Engg or Medicine ,and we are sure that u will go . People like us, who will not get admission in entrance will take the literature". 'Oh God!! What will I do...I want to do my higher studies in Malayalam and these High Marks that I have scored have become a CURSE for me'..

Even my dearest friends were of the opinion that I should go for Entrance Coaching and that I shud try to get admission in some good Engg College. They were telling me that my love for malayalam was due to the good Malayalam classes of Usha teacher which I attended in school.

When I talked with my Uncle , a soft ware Engineer, he said, " The Engineering field will surely give you a job. You have the calibre for doing it. " He quoted some ' n' number of examples to prove that ''Engineering Rocks and Malayalam Sucks" . Thus my hopes of doing higher studies in Malayalam reached no where. I was forced to attend the Entrance Coaching classes. I started hating my life . "Having no courage to do what you really want to do... :( " . At last got some decent rank in the Entrance Exams and joined NIT. A place to escape from the advices...But, I could not find any one sharing the same experience as mine. Many people whom I met in the hostels were from the coaching classes of P.C . Thomas. ' They were speaking as if their Mission in Life was to get into IIT. They blamed their fate for getting into NIT. '

In the first year,I could not accept the fact that I was doing some thing that I did not want to do. Slowly, I began to accept my fate. I just wanted to finish my courses fast. Never cared to go to HARD CORE concepts. Despite that , I started to score good grades . That was only due to the help of my dearest friend , Prabhul. When I told my plans , while I was in my tenth, to some of my friends in my third year, no one believed me. "Why are you lying man?? Then how are you scoring good grades?.Veruthe DEMO erakkalle". Even my Profs started to advise me to go for higher studies. I could not think of that.

But again the fate!! No one can escape from it. I am doing my MTech in IIT Madras. Now my first year is over. Even now, I don't know whether I have any interest in my Engineering. But the love towards the Malayalam Literature still stays in my mind and it will stay for ever.

Proxy @ IITM

In my previous post, I wrote about an exam which we had to take even before our classes started. Yeah, the exam which tested whether one should attend the English O Level Course or not. The results of that exam were announced on 4th Aug itself. Luckily, my name was not in the list , hence I was not expected to attend that particular class. I felt very happy. My first Success in IIT Madras. More than 80% of the MTechs had to attend that course. 100% attendance was mandatory for that course. ha ha...Nice IIT System!! The schedule for the class was like this : " ME,AERO,EE,Ocean .....students..Classes on all Fridays from 3 to 5 pm. Venue : CRC 201, 202 ,203. "

The first class was on Aug 10th. One of my friends, Mr X( actual name I am not going to disclose here) had to go home on that Friday (10th) . He was a bit desperate. Read the thing written in RED COLOR. So he approached me and asked me whether I could attend the class on his behalf. Or more precisely ,I should give a proxy for him. MY FIRST EVER PROXY IN MTECH . I agreed to attend the class. To avoid unnecessary confusion, I decided to sit in the Last Bench along with some of my Mallu QIP friends. I just wanted to remain as silent as possible so that the person handling the class , had no doubt at all. For that purpose, I decided to take down the notes neatly . The teacher came to the class at exactly 3 o'clock. She introduced herself and told that she was not going to take the class on that day. I wondered what she was planning to do for the next two hours.

The teacher was really friendly with the students. She wanted to know what they expected from her. Lots of answers came from here and there. Only a few things I remember properly .Murali said, " Mam, we want something thats useful for writing our project reports" . I dont know what he meant by that. Then some body else said that he wanted to have GD sessions that would be useful for the placements. She said that she would try to include every thing in her future classes and she wanted us to do some thing that day after she took the attendance. She started calling the names one by one. When she called out the name " Mr.X", I said, "yes, mam". I dont know what caught her attention. She told me to come to the front row. Shit!!!

She said that she would call the students from each state. The students, were supposed to introduce themselves and reply to the questions asked by the students of other states. Herself being a Keralite, she called the MALLU JUNTA first. Mr X also belongs to that category. So I was forced to go infront of the whole class along with my state mates. The most difficult task was, when I had to introduce myself . "I am Mr X. I am from Kerala. I did my BTech in....My future plans....blah blah..." Some how, I did that. After that, the students started asking us about ONAM, tourism, Communist Party...Those things we were able to answer nicely. After that she said, " Mr X. U are answering things really well. I wonder why you couldnt pass the exam".. I was happy when I heard those words from the teacher, but wondered what Mr X would do in the following week.

The class got over by 4.45pm. Many students came to me and appreciated my courage. ha ha...Even now, I dont know how I got the courage for that. May be, I might have forgotten how the lives of the three students got screwed up after they had to face the DISCO. (Ack: Five Point Someone) .

IITM Welcomes YOU

Beware!!

At last, I decided to do my MTech in IITM. The classes started on Aug 3rd. I came to Chennai on July 31st along with my parents. We stayed in a FIVE STAR HOTEL, named Abu Palace. On Aug 2nd, even before the classes started,we had to take our first ever exam in IIT. This is what is called as the IIT System. Some crap to avoid, attending O Level course in English. The exam just tested our basics in grammar and some writing skills. That night onwards, I started to stay in my hostel. I could not find so many friends initially. I was surrounded on all sides by people from other states...Not even a single mallu near by... Myself and Suresh , had gone to Tiffanys along with our seniors, by 11.15 in the night. The first ever visit to Tiffanys!!!!
The next morning, we reached the class at 7.50am itself.I remembered my NITC days when I used to go to the class at 8.15, for my 8 O'clock class. Many students were sitting inside the class. We sat in last but one bench, I hope. At exactly, 8 o'clock, one prof came to the class. The entire class became silent and just as a sign of respect, all the students wished ' GOOD MORNING SIR' . I still remember the first word that we heard from the Prof, " Are you trying to make fun of me? Who told you to wish me? ". ha ha...what to say...May be we did not act as per the IIT System. After that the Prof started explaining the contents in the course he was supposed to handle. " I can guarantee that this will be the toughest course you are going to face in your entire MTech. Last year, 13 out of 37 people failed in this course....( I felt very sleepy..Did not hear the entire talk...) ...
After some time, when I woke up , I heard him saying, "If you want to show respect to me , do it by scoring marks in your exam. From today onwards, no one should wish me when ever I enter the class. You , people are all matured and .....more blah blah" Thus the very first class in IIT , proved to be the MOST MEMORABLE one in the MTech life.
I had all the five periods on that day. Most of the Profs talked about the IIT System, how it could make the life of the students miserable, ...(remembered FIVE POINT SOME ONE )Thus the very first day of MTech life came to an end.

GATE or CAT???

Note: I do not guarantee the grammatical correctness in the matter I have written.

Yeah, these are the 'Strange names' , that a student entering the final year of his BTech normally encounters. Even I had to face the same problem. After getting the job, I felt very bored. Not so many students in the hostel were placed , at that time. So I decided to try my luck in management. ( The only source of inspiration was an S grade in the Principles of Management Course , we had in the fifth sem. I am not going to explain much abt the course, bcoz many of my friends know what we had studied in that course.[:D][:P])

I started to browse the net and downloaded the previous year question papers. I also joined in TIME. We had classes on all Saturdays from 9 to 5pm ...I hope...I did n't like the English classes, the quite obvious reason was " I was not able to follow the vocabulary classes that they were teaching". I understood that some of my friends also faced the same problem. So within a few weeks, I realized that ' I am a BIG ZERO' as far as vocabs are concerned. But I liked the Data Interpretation part of it. I also came to know that THE CUT OFFS IN ALL THE SECTIONS SHOULD BE CLEARED FOR GETTING A CALL : So it was now quite obvious that I was not going to clear the English part. I decided to go and try my luck in the exam, instead of wasting my energy by studying English. I wrote the CAT exam 'very well' . I wrote all the questions in the English Section: marked the option as C for all the questions. ( By the way, I have a superstition. If I don't know the answer to some question in an objective exam, I will mark the answer as C. It has helped me in many places. ) [:D] [:P].

The results of the CAT exam were announced by the last week of December. I got 88.9 percentile. 97+ %ile for DI and Maths, 32 %ile in English (DID NOT CLEAR THE CUT OFF )...Ha, ha ...But, I was happy.Got 32 %ile without even looking at the questions. Gud!!! But I was not going to get a call from any insti...[:(]...

Jan 30th 2007. So after getting screwed up in the CAT, I had gone home for collecting the GATE admit card. GATE::The only option in front of me for higher [??] studies.. Shit!! Again I have to mug up the technical stuffs. Just thought the long list of subjects I had studied in my BTech, till the seventh sem.. Fluid Mech, Solid Mech, Manf Sci, Mathematics, Thermodyn,Gas Dyn, ..................Long long list.......No it is impossible to study all of these in such a short time.. So I was sure of the FAILURE infront of me. But I wanted to have a DECENT FAILURE. I came back to college on Feb 2nd. About 10 more days for GATE!!

The only option in front of me : COMBINED STUDIES. We made some crap time table and decided that " only 3 days of study (24*3=72 hours) will be sufficient for cracking the GATE. After all we are all NITians. We have sufficient tech knowledge. " So we decided to start our studies on a Thursday. ( The GATE exam was on Sunday). That Thursday was a holiday for us. Some SPORTS Fest or some thing. I went to Suresh's room by 10.30 am. " Da DDLJ kandallo..Kure kalamayi athu kananamennu vichrikkunnu...(Da Lets watch DDLJ..)".Some one who was using his comp told. Yeah , we ( almost every one in E Hostel) watched it. Justice was done to Malayalam Film Industry also by watching Thoovanathumbikal of Mohan Lal. Thus we people were totally exhausted after watching two films back to back. It was about 6pm at that time. Suddenly, the thought of GATE came to our mind. We wasted one full day . " Tonight lets have a NIGHT OUT and study some thing. ha ha." ..
After dinner, " Where to start?? What to study?? " ...The usual questions before any exam..
The solution to all our problems....Some 800+ pages of Mechanical Stuffs+ previous question papers. When we started to read that, by God's grace, I was not able to answer even a single thing. Again, I observed that most of the answers were C. ha ha. We realized that if we studied Mathematics properly, we could score around 25 marks. We were happy. SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.
Studied some important topics on the day before the exam. Some crap in Merchant's circle, Mohr's circle, PERT, Machine Design..Some Tool Life...Thus we finished the entire Mechanical Engg BTech in just 5 or 6 hours. All of us were mentally prepared for the exam. The night before the exam was really a memorable night. By 7pm , we ( Myself, Vishnu, Vinod,Sarun , Orkka..) had gone to SHANGRILLA for Orkka's placement treat. Came back to hostel by 10.30pm. I felt very sleepy and slept peacefully..
The GATE exam that we wrote the next day, was yet another exam. We were able to answer more than what we had expected. I answered around 45 questions. (including 6/7 guesses) .I hoped to qualify the exam. The GATE results were announced on 15th March. Most of us got good results in it.

CHATTING is injurious to health :)

Disclaimer: The following blog is author's personal opinion. No other web site or health magazine can claim that the Author has copied this from their resources. Any resemblance found is unintentional and strictly coincidental. [:D][ :P].....

Hypothesis:

  1. Don't chat with a gal during late night.

The author can prove the above hypothesis with rigorous mathematical proofs. But the author personally feels that instead of just stating the theory, a story along with it , can help, the poor souls who are reading this blog, to understand the seriousness of what is being stated. The stories mentioned are based on the author's personal experiences. ( Acknowledgement: BTech Final Year Days)

A bit of personal things. The author is the only child of his parents. The author studied in a MIXED school till his tenth standard. 12 long years he studied in the same school. (from LKG to tenth). After his tenth,he had to join in some other school for continuing his education. (There was no PLUS One and PLUS Two in that school) . The author was a very nice boy in the school. There was not even a single thought like GAL FRIEND... He had lots of friends, both boys and gals. . Many a time, gals used to visit the author's home ...No problem @ home also...

So the author thought that his parents would send him to a MIXED SCHOOL for his PLUS ONE and PLUS TWO . But , unforunately due to some reasons , which the author is not interested in explaining in a blog, he was forced to join in a BOYS' school. So the contacts with the so called ' gal friends' began to decrease. The author , being a bit intelligent , cleared AIEEE and joined in NITC. There was absolutely no contact with any one after joining NITC. But the author's mind always wished to talk with his 'friends' again.

In one of the previous posts, the author has mentioned a date. June 26, 2006!!. Yeah, the day in which the author attended his L&T interview. The author after attending his interview, which got over @ 1.30 pm, was wondering what to do. As usual, he thought of spending the rest of his day in CC and decided to search his school mates thru orkut. The author was lucky... he got the contacts of almost all his school mates thru orkut. He sent a friend's request to every one. But he did nt get many of them accepted immediately. After staying up to 5.30, the author felt bored and wanted to know when the results of the interview would be announced. "By 10.30 pm", some body told.

The author went to his room. He saw many people discussing abt the interview in the hostel. The author saw a happy smile in the face of Katpu, Rojac and a few others...The author decided to sleep for some time. At 7.30 pm, Koduvally called him and told him that he was selected in the interview. Kodu also told the author to keep that as a secret as it was an UNOFFICIAL announcement by the Placement Rep(PR). The author was happy, went for his dinner and after that, to the placement cell. PR told the author that the official results wud be announced by 11.30 pm.

It was only 9.15 pm. The author decided to go back to CC. Then to his surprise, he got the invitation to chat, from two of his friends to whom he sent friends request in the evening. He was very happy. Started to chat immediately with one of them (A GAL)... For abt 2 hrs, the author chatted with that person. Suddenly, he got a call from one of his friends who was standing in front of the placement cell. The author looked at his watch...My GOD..." I was chatting for 2 hrs" ...He told her a BYE.., Rushed to the placement cell. When he reached there, he saw a crowd. One person suddenly came out and started reading the names of those who were selected. "Ya, the 3rd name: KRISHNA SABAREESH" ... The author was very happy, he called his parents and told them that he was selected. He also called that particular person with whom he was chatting for the past 2 hrs...

Next day morning, he again went to CC by 11 am .Yeah, that particular person was again online. Did nt chat so much, but just informed , that the author wud be going home, after two days.. The author did n't inform the matter to his parents ...Just wanted to give them a surprise....But the person with whom the author chatted on the previous night, informed the author's mother that her son was coming to TVM...Shit!!! The next day, when the author reached his home, no one was surprised.. But the author was surprised by two questions from his mother.

  • " What do you think?? That particular person has become more important than ur parents..??."some more blah,blah....Then advice, advice, advice ....my GOD...[:(]

From that day onwards, the author decided not to chat with any gal ( especially the ones who know his parents) during late night............GALS CAN THUS CHEAT U....

What to do next??

Yeah, I had a dream from my first year. Many a time , I had seen posters in Kattangal like this. Kattangal Dhanya...The most 'beautiful' theatre I have ever seen. Some of the specialities of that theatre :
  • only two classes of tickets are available there. Tickets worth Rs 5 and Rs 10. If you are ready to sit in wooden benches, then u need to spend just five rupees. But if you want to be more luxurious, pay them 10 rupees and sit in wooden chairs.
  • Whether you like to smoke or not, you will be in a 'SMOKE FULL' environment.
  • If you have not seen a MUTTA in your life before, this is a rare oppurtunity to get familiar with all varieties of them.
  • U can watch only A- rated movies on Thursdays..

Fortunately, I had gone there for the first time in my life on a Friday, along with two of my friends. We saw a good malayalam movie . But, when the show was over, we found one faculty member ( Maths Dept) there... ha ha.. What more to say??

Mukkom Abhilash :

The first thing that we hear whenever we go near the Palayam Bus Stand is " REC MUKKOM, REC MUKKOM ". So this means that , Mukkom is as important a place as REC is. As I like to watch malayalam movies very much, I always wished to go to Mukkom to watch a movie. One afternoon, Vishnu told me that he is interested in watching a new mallu movie, Vadakkumnathan ( Mohan Lal Movie) . Yeah, as the movie was released quite a few days back, it was currently running in Mukkom Abhilash Theatre. As both of us had an interest in going to Mukkom for watching a movie, we decided to go there for the first show.

We reached Mukkom by 5.15 pm. The show was supposed to start at 6.15. We wandered here and there and atlast reached the theatre. It was a pretty big one, though the building was a bit old. Any way, we took the balcony tickets . But to our surprise, the theatre was almost empty though it was a Mohan Lal movie. We thought that the people in those parts of the state support only Mammotty. The show got over by 8.50 pm. We decided to take food from Mukkom. After the dinner, we came to the bus stop . We thought that ' we would get a bus easily, to reach the college well before the gate facing Kattangal, is closed' . We waited for quite a lot of time. We did nt get a bus. Atlast, we found out the truth from some one, " Mone, today being a Sunday, there are not so many buses to Kozhikode at this time. The time is already 9.45 pm. You , people are very late. Next bus is the last one to Calicut. It may come in 15 min" .

Oh my God!! We started to blame our fate. We could have gone back to Kattangal as soon as the show got over, with out wasting our time for taking food. At last , by 10.20 pm, a bus came . We were very very happy. We did nt get a seat to sit. By 10.45 , we reached Kattangal. When we were about to get down, we saw a Mech Prof entering the same bus thru the back door. He didn't see us. We wanted to avoid his questions also. So we decided to get down thru the other door. But it was invain. He 'caught' us red- handed. "Where are you people coming from?".... Vishnu, "Sir, Cinema.... late aayi ". Myself," Sir, Mukkom ,...bus kittiyilla...". After hearing the word 'MUKKOM' Sir: " Sheri Sheri nadakkatte !!"....a typical smile as well. We were not able to understand the meaning of that smile.....

Life without NALANDA???

Second part of the story

Nalanda, the digital library in NITC, is supposed to be a store house of knowledge. Many people say : "We can access lots of International Journals thru NALANDA". The things that attracted me were the Air Conditioned Room and the really sexy computers out there. The computers available in CC were really desp. Many a time, I found difficulty in opening my Yahoo Messenger in CC. More over I was caught once for viewing something 'UNDESIRABLE'. So I started to hate CC.

So I started to think. "Why shudnt I use the facility provided (NALANDA) by the college properly?". So I went inside the NALANDA, and checked whether my username and pass word were working there. No!!! I talked with a Checchi there and got a new username and pass word. I was very happy . But still I wondered why many people preferred CC to NALANDA. Many of the seats in NALANDA were vacant. Atlast I realized the truth. " ORKUT IS BLOCKED IN NALANDA". Shit!! I wasted lots of my energy for getting such a facility. ??
I tried out various ways for entering orkut. Atlast I found out the way. Use https://www.orkut.com. I shud use an 'S' along with http://. ..Thats it!!

Thus I was in a position to access almost all the sites thru NALANDA. Great!! I started to use it for all purposes except the one for which it was actually built. ACADEMIC PURPOSES.. Even my friends, who used to call me a PAMP , wondered. " What happened to this guy? . For the past three days, he is not coming to my room for using my computer..Entha evan nannayo?? " Btw, PAMP(The Snake) is a pet name given to those who want to disturb others in every possible way(especially by using the computers of others, without even giving an oppurtunity to the owner to touch his comp). Unfortunately, I was a person who was not having a computer and I was supposed to be the Greatest PAMP in the E Hostel.

hmmm.... U can cheat any one till u r caught . But my NALANDA days did nt last long. I was caught , for using orkut in NALANDA. The checchi started to 'advise' me . She even blocked my ID. She told me to meet some Prof in charge of Digital Library, if I wanted to use NALANDA facilities again. Shit!! Again back to CC...[:(]

My Final Year Days in NITC

First part of the story
June 26th 2006:

L&T visited the NIT campus on this day, if I am right. The placement season for that academic year started off with L&T as the first CORE company coming to the campus. I hope many of you know the meaning of core. It is believed by many people who did Mechanical Engg in a presitigious institute like NIT including me, that we should join in a firm which is doing something closely related to what we have studied in the four years of our BTech life. Did I learn any thing in those four years? [:P]

So I have also decided to write the written test. All the Mech Engg students wrote exam except a few (Ankeeth and KP ). By God's grace,I cleared the written test, so the next question was INTERVIEW?? Yeah, it is true . I cleared that also. ( More details about the interview, I will put later).

I was really happy at that time. One should be lucky enough to get placed in the very first CORE company that visited the campus.

September first week
I dont remember the exact date. But Maruti Suzuki visited the NIT campus for the first time in the NIT history. Yeah, it was our first dream option. Initially I was not willing to write the written test. But many people told me, "life @ Maruti is damn good.More over it is in GURGAON. It is supposed to be a very 'hot' place. U can find lots of babes" :D ..
Yeah, I shud also write the test. An escape from the four years of boredom. I wrote the written test and attended the interview. I was not able to perform well in the interview, but still Maruti people selected me.

My first blog

Hi friends,
I am Krishna Sabareesh. I am currently doing my MTech in IIT Madras. I read the blogs of others and always wanted to start a blog . This one being my first blog, is not having any thing worth reading . I hope to add some thing really interesting in my future blogs.
